Institutional support to the Republic of Azerbaijan through facilitating effective development of domestic tourism.


This is a joint project of the Government of Azerbaijan and UNDP for the development of tourism in the country. On February 6, 2004, UNDP and Ministry of Culture and Tourism signed two-year project aimed at providing support to the Ministry to establish Tourism Information Centres in Baku, Guba, Xachmaz, Shamaxi, Lenkoran, Ganja, Naxchivan. The primary responsibility of the Baku Tourism Information Center and other regional centers would be to provide information to tourists, select convenient tourist routes and identify places of interest; collect information on hotels and restaurants, transportation; render interpretation an information-related services; develop and distribute booklets and route maps, as well as to inform on all other issues related to the tourism area in integrated way.


Another part of project is creating web portal within the project frame. The aim of the portal is to open Azerbaijan for the world as an attractive country from the tourism point of view with very convenient search system, facilitating arriving and staying of tourists in Azerbaijan. Taking into consideration successfulness of project, there was given an offer from the Government and UNDP for its continuation.
